Finally, FINALLY I am sewing for myself on a semi-regular basis again! I am so happy with how this skirt turned out. I purchased this awesome ponte knit from Yellow Bird several months ago while I was pregnant, but I’ve been hanging onto it ever since. I finally decided to make one of these skirts now that I’m within 10-15 pounds of my normal weight.
I love this style because it works great for a mom like me. I can wear it and look put together if I’m out-and-about, but it’s as comfortable as wearing sweatpants, really. And since it’s a longer length, I don’t have to worry about flashing anyone when wrangling my
The pattern is McCall’s 6654 – Misses’ Skirts in 7 Lengths. I made view C in a size 10 based on my pre-pregnancy, non-postpartum measurements. You may be able to tell I’m still a little plump for this size, but I’m sure I will be down to normal in a few weeks.
This skirt is so easy-to-sew, I didn’t even read the instructions. I serged the side seams widened the waistband to 2″ and basted it together with the elastic inside. Then, I serged it onto the top of the skirt. I serged the bottom and then hemmed it using a double needle. Bam. Done in half an hour or so.
I’m sure I’ll be making plenty more of these in the various lengths (and the a-line shape) included in the pattern. I love it!
